African Skyline

This painting was something completely new to me. I enjoy trying new things and expanding my boundaries.

Here's how I did it:

First of all, I always try to add some more background information to try to perfect something before I even start it. So, I went to the internet and looked up tips on how to paint with acrylic paints, watched some videos and read some articles. Which, with that I did learn some new tips and tricks. 

The first thing I learned is that having a old worn out brush can work for many things from painting clouds to painting leaves on trees. As a matter of fact, I actually just spread the bristles out on one of my flat-tipped brushes and that worked fine for me. 

The second thing I  learned is that some people start with a “tinted” canvas, meaning that they put a thin layer of paint on the canvas before actually starting the piece. To do this, they either mix it with water, or acrylic medium. 

I would say that that using an acrylic medium instead of the water is a better idea, because in a different page I learned that after time, if you tint your canvas with a  mixture of water and acrylic, after time the paint chips off because the acrylic molecules can’t bond together with the mixture of water. Whereas if you use a mixture of acrylic paint and acrylic medium, the acrylic medium has the same molecule shape and volume of molecules so, the medium bonds better than the water, meaning; by using the medium the paint is less likely to chip off after time. 

This painting was a challenge for me, and I’m satisfied with how it turned out! I learned a lot in the process of making this piece and I’m excited to make more! Stay posted on my page to keep updated with my work!
